I installed and tested the oddsocks iPhone patch and discovered that it does not autoplay until after about 4MB of data has been downloaded to the iPhone. I have tested this with several iPhones with the same result.
I found a work-around and have been trying to implement the change in Icecast, but I have been unsuccessful and need some help. After receiving the first 206 partial content request, if the server sets the content-length to two bytes and sends just two bytes, the iPhone will autoplay the stream almost immediately. Every subsequent request should set the content-length to a really high value (since the length of the stream is not known).
I have not yet found a way to control the number of bytes sent in response to a request. Is this possible? |

If apple have gone out of their way to prevent playback then I don't see why we should bend over backwards to determine what procedure could be used. If the procedure making this work is only mildly irritating then it may be considered.
