Icecast Streaming Media Server

This question seems to be asked alot around here, but in trying to put them all together I still have a choppy understanding in what I need to do. Let me make sure I have this right - I need to somehow configure muse (which from what I've read doesnt appear to be allowed) to be able to output metadata based on the current song its playing, and then configure icecast accept that information and pipe that it to the listener, right?

If so, has anyone sucsesfully done this with muse & icecast? if so, how did you go about doing it? Where do I start?

Firstly, icecast 2.3.1 is the latest. Secondly AFAIK muse does not send metadata updates to icecast, however ices 0.4 does if you want an alternative app.
