checking whether stripping libraries is possible... yes
appending configuration tag "F77" to libtool
checking for pkg-config... no
checking for shout-config... no

mir:/home/wm/icecast/ices-0.4 # configure: error: Could not find a usable libshout

Well, from what I can read, sounds you try to compile ices from source. But, depending on your Linux or FreeBSD distribution, you should be sure that you have the devel package for libshout installed.
Or, il you installed also libshout from sources in some non standard place, you should tell ices configure where your icecast package is installed.
try:
./configure --help in ices sources to get a list of options.

Note that some linux distributions, such as Fedora Core, opensuse, mandriva and more already have prebuilt Icecast and ices.

i've installed the libshout first from icecast webside by
./configure
make
make install

then from packman as an rpm together with the devel package

no changes at all.

at the end - I found darkice as a rpm package - that is working well Wink
