Buffer size in the player can be reduced to reduce delays.
Also if you have a very large burst-size in the icecast config it will increase the delay. What kind of delay times are you seeing?
Also you should use icecast 2.3 if you are not already using that. |

in my winamp this the buffering configuration :
buffer length is 2000ms
prebuf = 10 ms
i'm using icecast2.2
in icecast.xml :
<limits>
<clients>100</clients>
<sources>2</sources>
<threadpool>5</threadpool>
<queue-size>102400</queue-size>
<client-timeout>30</client-timeout>
<header-timeout>15</header-timeout>
<source-timeout>10</source-timeout>
<burst-on-connect>0</burst-on-connect>
<burst-size>65535</burst-size>
</limits>
in asterisk-ices.xml :
<input>
<module>stdinpcm</module>
<param name="rate">8000</param>
<param name="channels">1</param>
</input>
<encode>
<quality>0</quality>
<samplerate>8000</samplerate>
<channels>1</channels>
</encode> |

Try upgrading to icecast 2.3 as that fixes some problems related to this. I had these problems as well, and likely your delay is increasing over time too? |

you're asking icecast to send 64k burst for one thing, so it will send 64k of old data. As Vorbis is VBR you may find that the bitrate is very low (varies depending on the audio coming into ices), so 64k can contain a large amount of audio. The player is the other place the delay can be, but that is usually in bytes not mS
