Im starting to lose a few hairs but hey that is life.
I have just started playing with icecast because of a request from a few people who want to start dj-ing.
well we got the icecast to play fine in windows media player using http://jfradio.servemp3.com:8000/listen .
real player and winamp try to play it
it has connecting then we get end of playback, it wont actually do anything.
I have been looking in the forums for the past 2 hours and can not seem to find anyone with a similar problem with an answer.
What would I need to provide to you to get a resolution?
Thanks
Jason
EDIT: winamp works fine on LAN using the same address..!!??? |

end of playback would indicate the end of the stream, it which case what would you expect to happen?

I would expect it to play because windows media player is playing.
winamp and real player are doing the connecting - end of playback with out even connecting. Thats not what I would have expected.
The stream has not ended. The stream has been on for 14 hours non stop. |

so you mean the playback doesn't even start, for it to end, the playback must of started. The question now is are the realplayer/winamp listening apps showing up as listeners on the list clients page of icecast.
The url looks fine from here and you are sending an mp3 stream which looks valid. So content-wise things look fine, maybe it's some other limit that is preventing them, you haven't said anything about what gets logged. A listener who connects should be generating messages at least in the error log. Normally for winamp, you get a connecting then pre-buffering, if all you get is connecting then something in the underlying network connection level is not working.

bit confused about some things you talk about , sorry.
here is error log when a friend tried to connect using realplayer
[2008-01-05 08:44:43] DBUG stats/stats.c update node total_bytes_read (12372390)
[2008-01-05 08:44:43] DBUG stats/stats.c update node total_bytes_sent (4965608)

[2008-01-05 08:44:47] DBUG stats/stats.c update node listeners (0)
What do you mean by this comment?
The question now is are the realplayer/winamp listening apps showing up as listeners on the list clients page of icecast.
do you mean the webpage?
I see my mate connected for 110 seconds then a second session starts
he says it looks as if it is buffering.
can this mean network?
may be my router is broken from the storm we have a few weeks back.
I dont understand why windows media player streams it fine.
here is what the webpage says when he is trying to connect with both
78.xx.xx.xx 155 seconds Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; (R1 1.5)) <- real player (dead)
78.xx.xx.xx 11 seconds NSPlayer/11.0.5721.5145 WMFSDK/11.0 <- windows media player (connected)
thanks for your time and help.
If I am still not giving correct info feel free to abuse me |

Ok..
we have tested 20 people and 90% of them can get winamp working. Must be a setting in winamp somewhere.
Thanks
