|
|
Hi there! I've been using Icecast for awhile now and it's fantastic. But I have never actually been explained how to read the stats page.
Since Icecast2 has arrived, I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on the displayed information.
client_connections 1160
clients 2
connections 1176
file_connections 0
listener_connections 29
server Icecast 2.3.0

I understand that it's fairly self explanatory, aside from this first section above.
Can anyone explain the difference between 'client_connections', 'connections', 'file_connections' and 'listener_connections' ?
Thanks for your help and all your great work on this project! |

all the '*connections' stats are accumulative, so 'clients' is the number of clients currectly connected whereas 'connections' is the total number of clients that have connected since the server started.
'client_connections' really refers to GET requests (listeners, webroot, admin access), so should be less than or equal to connections.
'file_connections', accumulated count of successful file requests from webroot. The webroot xsl (eg status.xsl) files don't apply currently as they are translated but could do in future, however any links on those pages that translate to seperate requests to files (eg icecast.png) are counted.
'listener_connections', accumulated count of successful requests by listeners. This does not apply to webroot files or failed to auth listeners.
More stats could be added, in testing I have per-stream total/avg byte counts but if you think there is other stats that can be added then by all means suggest some.

Thanks for the reply! That was exactly what I was hoping to learn.
One thing about the stats that would greatly determine the demographic of listeners and overall value of a stream, is the amount of time a client is connected.
I do have other suggestions for the invaluable stats.xsl file (hostname log, client application log, connection restarts vs. new connections etc..) but one thing at a time is great progress! |

The access log does detail the duration of disconnected clients, your suggestions would tend to indicate some processing of that.
