This is pretty simple.

Basically I got Icecast-Oddcast-Winamp playing my music.

Secondly I have Windows media player streaming the music live on my website.

It was all working fine a few minutes ago but out of no where it just stopped buffering and can't no longer connect to the server.

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because a network error occurred. The server might not be available. Verify that you are connected to the network and that your proxy settings are correct.

What I've been reading on here is that I need to add .m3u at the end of the address I think but I'm not sure how this is going to work.

Basically I want to stream to atleast a couple of my friends.

I'm streaming live right now so any help is appreciated.[/b]

Here's what Icecast looks like right now. It shows only winamp as a client. And look at those attempts.

firstly, if you have on your web page a 192.168 link then it cannot be accessed externally because those are reserved for your own use. secondly we cannot fix the faults in wmp but one common issue with playback on wmp is that if the stream is variable bitrate then in general, wmp will not been able to handle that.

Sorry I know this question probably has been asked before but I just don't quite understand some of the etiquette used on here. All I know how to do is follow directions. lol

So basically what should I use instead and how?

instead of the 192.168 ... address, you should use an address that your listeners can use (can be a name of course). If the stream is VBR and that is the problem (obviously I'm guessing at this point) then to play in wmp you have to change the encoder settings to make it work in CBR (constant bitrate) mode.

I just changed my ODDcast server IP localhost to whatever name I want?

but ten Icecast doesn't see me so I changed the icecast localhost to my name under configuration.

That didn't work ofcourse. I'm out of ideas. lol

So far this works on my website http://localhost:8000/DJCRADIO.mp3 in media player.

But the localhost name is still there with :8000.

Every server that produces any content to users needs a name or at least an IP address, what is your server name or IP. An example would be www.google.com

I'm so lost right now I have no idea what to do. I just don't understand.

Can you just give me a step by step instructions.

You know I'm trying to stream music on my website here>>> www.gpapex.com/DJC

ok so my media player requires that I enter the url of the destination of my music I'm streaming.

Easy so how do I change localhost:8000 to my name I choose.

The server you asked me for are numbers,
ok so what do I do with that where do you want me to put the server IP?and how do I change it to a name instead for security.

Do I need to go in Icecast config and change the hostename???

<!-- This is the hostname other people will use to connect to your server.
It affects mainly the urls generated by Icecast for playlists and yp
listings. -->
<hostname>localhost</hostname>

What about Oddcast what do I need to change here????

You can use localhost in the source client as that has no bearing on what listeners will use. You can usually get away with leaving hostname in icecast xml as localhost but you will need a proper link on the web page if you are going to refer to an icecast stream. icecast is not a web server although you can run it on the same machine as a web server, which is something that you haven't made clear.

I cannot tell you what your IP address or DNS name is, your provider will give you that information. You can look at sites like www.whatsmyip.org to check what your IP address is.

The only stream link I see on you page is http://www.gpapex.com/DJCRADIO.mp3 which is not from icecast, it's from your web server (port 80). icecast is usually on port 8000 but can be any port that you choose in the xml.

Ok so I retrieved my IP and it starts with a 76. so where do I put this IP?
I thought you said I could change my IP to a name for the listeners from Icecast?

So that my stream link url will be more like http://myname:8000/DJCRADIO.mp3 or similar.

correct, the stream link would be http://76......:8000/mountpoint and the playlist for that is http://76....:8000/mountpoint.m3u where the m3u playlist is automatically generated. You can specify other playlists types (eg .pls) in webroot if you want. Usually the playlist link is placed on a web page, so that all a listener has to do is click the link on the webpage.
