I'd like to have multiple streams/mount points in a single playlist, any pointers on how to create a playlist to do this? or do I need to make my users choose between low & hi?

Ideally I want people to open the http://www.site.com/live.m3u which by default opens the hi-bandwidth mountpoint, however if their connect cannot support it, drop to the low-bandwidth mountpoint.

Ideas?

Typically you'll want to use multiple mountpoints for low and high bandwidth streams, assuming the low bandwidth has different samplerate/channels from the high bandwidth stream. If you try a fallback between them then you may find that some listeners won't handle the changes in those settings.

I understand that I need multiple mountpoints to support the different streams...

But do I need to have separate m3u's linking to them?

here is my setup idea:
1x 24k/dualmono mp3 stream for dialup
1x128k/stereo mp3 stream for broadband

Ideally I only want a single "listen" link on my website, rather than have 1 for each bandwidth... Yet there seems to be little or no info on this.

An m3u is just a playlist, you can write your own m3u if you want and list both streams in there.

Ok, but there seems to be no real FAQ on how to create such a playlist or is there no sort of advanced functions in m3u?

I'm aware that it's basically just a text file with file urls...
