Greetings,

Developed an internet radio streamer using the html5 audio tags with jQuery and a flash fall back for unsupported browsers. Upon testing the player on iPhone(s), we ran into a very peculiar issue.

When the iPhone is connected to WiFi, it streams perfectly using the HE-AAC V2 stream (the preferred codec for apple products). However, when the iPhone is connected to a 3G mobile network, it "stutters" or stops streaming for 1-2 secs every 2-4 minutes (does not stop streaming completely). The troubling thing is when the iPhone is forced to use a separate MP3 stream at the same bit rate, it does not have this issue and works very well on 3G mobile network.

Has anyone else experienced this issue before? I've tried using various mime types, enabling/disabling metadata, using different bit rates but the issue persists. Appreciate any help. Thanks.

You've a problem on the 3G network bandwidth, it's not a server problem.
try to reduce the kbps on your stream.

No dice, reducing the bit rate does nothing (it's already at 64kbps). I believe this may be an issue with the script not rendering correctly when connected to mobile networks. The finger seems to point to the mobile network carriers that may be inserting Proxy to serve webpages, e.g. for downsizing images. Also it might inject some JavaScript to pages...

Sorry to snoop and inject myself into this conversation, but is there any chance you would be able to share your source code for the radio streamer cruxial? highly interested! i have a friend starting up a radio station but he can't afford to have any apps developed (iphone, android,bb,etc). I'm trying to help him, hence why I am learning icecast and all this other opensource stuff Smile I've setup ffmp3 with icecast but only the latest android os plays music with the ffmp3 web player.

if not, i totally understand! thanks and sorry to bug you...
