Hi,
I'm thinking of switich to Icecast, but I have one question:
Does it work with Mp3Pro? If I encode Mp3Pro and decode with Thomson's Mp3Pro plugin, will the audio be better?
Thanks! |

mp3pro will be treated like mp3 by icecast and passed through. So that should work as you want. Your listeners will of course need the correct plugin to handle the extra mp3pro information. Needless to say we recommend Ogg vorbis instead.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. So you could say that if the listener has the MP3Pro plugin installed on their end they will hear a much better 56k stream?
I will look into the Ogg Vorbis thing, although it's not widely spread yet.
Thanks! |

mp3pro will sound better than mp3 I suppose, I haven't tried it myself to compare, no mp3pro codec available. Vorbis is more widespread than mp3pro |

I've been running mp3PRO on IceCast for over 18 months without a single issue or problem. The Broadcaster is SAM2 from Spacial Audio which takes the mp3 files and encodes the mp3PRO feed to IceCast. Works great. Use WinAMP with the mp3PRO decoder installed to decode the feed correctly. 64K mp3PRO sounds like 128K mp3.
