I just compiled icecast 2.3.0 on a Mandrake 10.1 box. It has the newest libxml2 and libxslt.

When trying to start icecast, it aborts with the error message:
icecast: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libxslt.so.1: undefined symbol: xmlIsBaseCharGroup

What is wrong here?

That symbol isn't referred to by icecast itself, it's in the xslt lib and it's wanting that from libxml2. If you really have both the latest of libxslt and libxml2 then you should have it but it's possible that the binary is referring to a different version (depending on system settings and places they are installed)

ldd /path/to/icecast

you should see the libs with their paths, make sure they are the ones you have installed.

There was a conflicting older libxml2.so.1 in another directory. I deleted it, now it works. Thanks.

well obviously it cannot find the curl library, modifiy the path to fit your setup (you may have the curl lib in the standard place for all we know)
