Hi,
I found Icecast very good solution for broadcasting. However I found difficult while trying to improve/optymize hardware configuration.
Sound in my case comes to one computer (this computer is based on linux and its task is to save every hour of music to mp3 file in order to make a copy of what is played). I have got icecast on another computer. The problem is that I can not send sound from one to another using ices. What is more I would like to avoid using ices decreasing delay in this particular way.
Icecast takes sound from file. I would like to avoid using file which after several hours would be huge. I wonder how to redirect sound from one machine via local network to antoher device.
Do you think it is possible. Probabely it is, as it was said that with linux everything is possible. Unfortunately I have no idea how to solve this problem. |

There is no reason why ices cannot send to icecast on another machine. There will always be some latency with the reading and encoding but you haven't specified what latency you find acceptable.

| I wanted to avoid ices at all but for now question is based on fact that I would like to eliminate file growth while sending sound from one computer to another. I mean I would like to use stream instead of file as a source of sound in icecast. Perhaps I am wrong with configuration or capabilities? |

A source client like ices is for streaming to icecast, there is no requirement for writing the content to file. It's there as an option in the source client but you can backup content at any point in the chain. As for avoiding ices (or any other source client) well you need to be very clear on your intentions because without encoding you'll have raw pcm which is high bandwidth.
