Icecast Streaming Media Server

We have a successful radio show in the US and want to stream it. To be SoundExchange compliant, we need to be able to deliver the exact number of listeners for each time an individual song is played.

The issue is that our radio shows are 60-minute complete programs. In other words, the individual songs are embedded within the program (file) and we would not be able to exactly show how many people heard what song, when.

Is there a solution to embed some sort of metadata to the radio show file that triggered start/stop times for individual song titles within the program?

It appears that Sony Vegas would allow us to embed some information using the Cue Function and Command Markers. Apparently this function allows you to create metadata that would appear on an audio player.

Is this the same metadata that the icecast server could pick up? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

You could issue a metadata update every time you wanted to log the number of listeners. The metadata doesn't have to be different but the playlist log will show a listener count. Or you could just issue a stats request when there is a change of track.
