Icecast Streaming Media Server

Hello Everybody

I am new to this project, and want to made my home computer as a streaming server which can provide me the songs on my computer as a streaming file anywhere.

I searched around on google and came to know about icecast.

I downloaded the icecast, oddcast plugin for winamp. Both of these are installed on my window 2000 machine.

Now come to the point, I wanna know the basic terminology of the whole process, how this works and the role of each component? How the stream is created? How is that broadcasted over the internet, and then accessible from a different machine?

Hope this newbie is not creating any problems by asking you all the basic, silly questions.
