Hi there,
I'd like to see the icecast server process separated from the user interface such that it can run as a windows service (ie daemon mode). Maybe the existing http interface is good enough, or code the Win32 UI to talk to icecast via its http interface? This could be a straight forward as supplying a command line option to the executable that effectively says "start the server immediately with the current config and do not display a window" permitting the use of SRVANY.EXE to wrap it as a windows service, or as mentioned above, separation of client and server.
As a part-time contributor to sourceforge project Obseqiuem, I have offered my services to do a Win32 port, one of my latest submissions being improved icecast support (via libshout-2.1). My port would naturally include code to run the daemon portion as a windows service - I'd want to be able to run the "office jukebox" as a task on some server without having to leave a user session logged in.
Regards,
Alistair. |

we would certainly welcome any patches that add this capability. I would suggest adding it as a command line option to the console version of icecast (the VC project files are in the win32 directory).
