Icecast Streaming Media Server

I am hoping someone can help me with this, we have set up an icecast stream using a QTSS server. It works great when opening up the URL in Quicktime player using the icy:// URL. Ideally what we would like to do is embed the icecast stream into a webpage is this not possible? I have found some documentation on the web, but my web guy said he is having difficulties embedding it with the icy:// protocol. Also, for some reason the http:// URLs do not work for the stream when I type in the URl into any web browser except Internet Explorer any reason for this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do have a hack in my branch for processing icy:// but it's not in the main release as there hasn't been any call for this unusual style of url. As for the http style of urls "not working", you will have to expand on what "not working" means. As usual the first thing you should check is the logs.

well if you enter in the icy:// address for the stream into Quicktime PLayer -> File -> Open URL it works. If you take the URL http:// pointing into the same path it will do nothing in a browser. If I open Windows Media Player -> File -> Open URL -> and enter the http:// address it works fine. Should I not be able to open the icecast stream from a http address?

yes, provided the application knows what to do with the request. If you give a url to a stream to a browser then it probably won't work but it will if you provide it to a player. A browser will be ok with a web page or a playlist.
