OK, I'm new here and can get icecast to run off my machine, quite simply, BUT I have a Linux Server (Website, I don't host, I pay for it to be hosted) And like I had ShoutCAST running off it just fine. But I couldn't get "Shout CAST" 's Content, folder. Ability to work right.
What this did is, if set to, it would play everything in the content folder, on it's own. As in, I wouldn't have to stream anything.
I've heard alot of good things about iceCast from people, and been told it's able to do what I want it it to do. WHICH IS 100% run off my site, the streaming, the hostings, the loading of music, etc. If anyone is able to assist me with this, would muchly appreciate it, thanks! |

We can only guess at what you want to achieve, but icecast either serves streams or allows for files to be downloaded. It's certainly possible to run apps like ezstream on your hosted server to create any streams you want.

| Basically what I want is something like ShoutCAST ( havn't used iceCast so I wouldn't know) but like right now, my WinAmp streams music to my site, which hosts it and relays it to all the people. And using ShoutCAST I can upload ONE song and make it play for people to listen to it, but I wanna make it so it streams PLAYLISTS...Does this make any sense? I suck at describing things. |

well that is easily achieved by icecast, you use a source client that may be on your local machine which can create one or more streams. You can use oddcast or even the shoutcast plugin if you want. Any single file or pls/m3u can to placed in the webroot for download by listeners.
