Hi all! I've been happily using Icecast since 2006. Wondering if anyone has AAC transcoding working on a *nix box with Icecast?
I'm revisiting these forums now that AAC+/HE-AAAC is supported in Flash and iTunes. I used to solely broadcast in MP3 but would like to add AAC support now to conserve bandwidth and reach more listeners.
I know that Icecast is not a transcoder. However, I am posting here because from my experience this is the most helpful and supportive forum (thanks Karl!)
Here's what I've gathered so far--
• Oddsock's StreamTranscoderv3 supports AAC transcoding only in the Windows version, not the Linux version.
• Shoutcasts SC_Trans new 2.0 version ( http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=fa3ad93914949fefc2a72f2daae40429&threadid=302747&perpage=40&highlight=&pagenumber=1 ) seems like it might work but I'm not sure if it works with Icecast?
So again, I'm wondering if anyone has AAC transcoding working on a *nix box with Icecast? |

AAC support under *nix is very limited because of the patents. I can't say for sure whether the newer version if sc_trans works but it should even if you configure icecast to accept shoutcast style source clients.

Thanks Karl, you're the best. I'll play around with sc_Trans and report back here if I learn anything. Seems like my setup may look like this:
[Song Database] > [ices0] > [sc_Trans]/[streamTranscoder] > [Icecast] > [Listener]
streamTranscoder for Ogg Vorbis feeds and sc_trans for the aac+ feeds. I suppose I could use either for the different mp3 feeds I want to provide.
If anyone else tries using the new sc_trans to work with Icecast post here and let us know how it goes! |
