Icecast Streaming Media Server

Dear users,

I have been struggling for hours with router settings and configuration of the icecast server, i simply cannot find the problem when i try to reach my icecast server externally.

I have set up my router so it redirects port 8000 to my server.
I scanned the port from an external portscanner and it seems to be open!

I do not get any useable info in my logs, so i am quite confused.

With yourt info, I guess your OS is Windows XP..

If the router correctly forwards port 8000 to your station, external access to your icecast shoudld be granted, provided your Windows Firewall too has port 8000 open.

Sorry for the lack of info im on Mac OS X with Leopard. I tried to enable DMZ function to place my ip-address external (out of the sight of firewall), but it did not function. I have tried to change the port to 7070 but no luck either.

Leopard sounds a strange neast... Anyway, yous should double check leopard config, spécially network and firewall, as those sometimes act in a weird way.

I have disabled firewall in Leopard.

My network structure is like this:

"Main DSL Router from ISP" -> Router (DHCP) -> Mac OS X computer

I have directed Main DSL router to give access to all ports to my Router (DHCP). I have then directed the port to my Mac OS X computer and it is detectable from a portscanner.. But hell it doesnt work..

Well, if main DSL router shows port 8000 open, prroblem could be double forwarding, DSL => DHCP => MacOS X...

What if, for testing purpose you directly connect MacOS X computer to DSL router ?

I have considered doing that, but doing this right now is quite impossible i have to rewire some things and change settings all over the place, makes me puke.. Fact is that im quite sure the porting works as other applications functioning with the port forwarding from my DHCP router.

If the portscan reported the port as open then it won't be a firewall issue as that indicates there was a successful response to the connection. What is not clear is what actually happens if you request the status page in such cases.

I have tried to access the page externally, there is not reaction in the log-files understood in such way that it doesnt respond from external access.

Well this confirms tha even is the port is open, something blocks access to icecast.

if the icecast log files show no attempt from external access but an external scan of the port shows it as open and an external browser request comes back blank then I would suspect that something else is responding like apache. The fact that it is working internally would rule out a platform issue and no extra logging (try level 4) on an external request would indicate that icecast is not seeing the request at all, but obviously based on your description so far, something is.

When i scan my computer it shows that there is someting listening on port 8000 and 8001 which is icecast. So there shouldnt be any conflict?

correct, but you have always said that internally the system worked fine, so that part is should be fine. The router may be forwarding to the wrong IP for example. Personally I would use a packet sniffer like tcpdump or wireshark to actually see it an external request gets to your Mac.
