I don't think you realise what it is you're asking for...
Besides the fact that most ISP's don't offer access to the MBONE, I don't think multicast is that simple to implement. |

Multicast would indeed be cool. It's extremely unlikely to get implemented in icecast unless someone sponsors development (it's a lot of work). |

Well we have access to the MBONE.
I think too, that it is lot of work to implemnt the Mulicast protocol. Perhaps I can find a developer, who helps implement the protocol. |

You're probably better off looking at another streaming server that already supports RTP, or that already has specific plans for implementing it. |

We cannot just switch from unicast TCP to multicast, there are a few other considerations with one being player support. We could make the stream data be a queue of packets which can then be made into RTP or Ogg/TCP but we would want to wait for Ogg2 so that the zero copy would be useful.
It needs looking into more and how the headers would work with RTP per the specs. |
