The whole idea is that no client will get the content if the user credentials are not passed. Don't foget that you could use query arguments in url auth.

yes but in Itunes I got challenged to enter my uid and password but on the iphone I just got rejected. So it seems the iphone Quicktime is not supporting authorization challenges which is a pity, but it would be interesting to hear if there is a list of clients that currently do support listener authentication for Icecast.
Do you know of any such list?
Thanks

if you want to compile a list then feel free to do so, I think most are ok. The problem with iphone is that I think some do weird range requests and that may have an issue with auth. Not having one means it's something I've not had confirmed.

As I said, I think most do support this and I'm farily certain iphone does as well, but I do not have a definitive list of various players with their versions and platforms.

HI Karl, thanks. I was hoping maybe someone had a list of supported clients already. The iphone experience I have had is that the challenge is not supported, as in, it just refuses you access.
thanks for your time.
