Icecast Streaming Media Server

Hi folks, I get the following in error.log:

[2011-05-21 18:26:52] INFO yp/send_to_yp YP touch on http://dir.xiph.org/cgi-bin/yp-cgi failed: SID does not exist. Check your firewall, your server may be unreachable from outside.

The encoder is ogg and is set for public, icecast.xml has the directory settings uncommented, listeners can stream from the configured port (8000).

What is this SID?
Do I need to have some other port(s) opened in the firewall as well as the stream port?

Glad to see that someone is referring to the logs for errors.

SID is the session id, a unique handle the directory gives to reference the stream. You are allocated one during the add phase and the 'touch' updates require it. The fact that the SID is dropped would tend to indicate that the details are not being touched for a period of time.

From what I can tell it seems to get validated so the details are correct but they do expire after a while so if these touches are delayed or the connection dies then these sorts of things can occur. Check to see if you are referring to directories that are inactive then check to see the frequency of the updates as that may indicate some issue.

I restarted icecast, and it showed up in the directory, then disappeared again.
The change I'd made prior to restarting was to remove the bind address statement as I'd discovered in tcpdump that the requests to dir.xiph.org were not coming from the same IP as was configured in icecast.xml's bind address.

Odd, I just checked the directory, and it shows...will let 5-10 min elapse and see if it still shows before I submit this...

...and it disappeared again...

Not sure what you mean by this, you mean the source providing the audio or clients connected to icecast?

It looks like the directory could not access your server for quite a while then there was a change in the <hostname> (about 04:10 GMT), then it started to work. It seems to stay connected for a number of hours but then drops and reconnects (the first reconnect being around 07:35 GMT then 12:05 GMT), whether those match up with any source client or icecast restarts is hard to say, but should give you something for comparison.

Ok, source disconnects correspond, hostname change was also made last night, server shows up in directory listings, thanks Karl, seems problem is solved.

Hmm its happening again, and I have the correct hostname set in icecast.xml,
rdb.ardynet.com, no blocks in the firewall can be reached from remote location, stream works....

looks like check-up for the stream was failing for a while, just couldn't access your icecast stream so was being dropped. The details look valid and has seemed to resolve itself, been working for the last 2 hours. Hard to say what the exact failure was, a connection just could not be made, maybe a DNS or remote access failure is possible, but I don't have that detail to say for sure.
