Okay...so I am completely new to this. Rather than asking a bajillion questions: Can anyone recommend a good website or tutorial that will take me step by step through setting this up? Specifically I have a website hosted by Ipowerweb that I would look to have people at the site be able to access the stream. I have a home computer that I think I can use as the server for the actual stream.

But really...I'm talking basics. Like what software IceCast works with. I mean can you just broadcast with a mic like talk radio? Or does it have to be loaded into an mp3 player like winamp?

Okay....so that was still a lot of questions. All I'm asking for is a good place to read this information, a tutorial for dummies or something.

Thanks,
in advance

Ipowerweb: you have remote control on this? install icecast. for streaming to it use the oddcast standalone

http://www.icecast.org/docs.php
http://forum.icecast.org/viewtopic.php?t=808

some little help as i'm new to this too. but it didn't take very long. configuring icecast to your special needs will take most of the time.
most important in the icecast config:
<hostname> your webserver IP
<admin-password>
<source-password> the password you enter in oddcast together with the webserver IP

you can change the webserverIP with your domain if you like

and what i found very late: enter http://yourwebserverip:yourport into the webbrowser when you're on air to check the status.xsl

and yes you can talk over the mic as long as it's conencted to the pc somehow. you can stream what ever goes int your soundcard / you hear coming out of the PC.

good luck!

As mentioned in the FAQ section, check the http://www.gnuware.com/icecast/ site, the xml configs are fairly simple really

Thanks, I must have missed that link in the FAQ Section. Looks like I have a good deal of reading to do.
