I own a laptop and a desktop, the latter residing on a pretty good constant fiber connection. With these facts in mind, here is my dream setup for broadcasting my own internet radio:

Most all music will be played off of the desktop, where the streaming server will be located and most mp3s as well. I should be able to remotely create playlists and make immediate playing decisions (off the laptop from anywhere, or any other computer with internet access) and on-sight.

With this ability in mind, I also want to be able to superseed this desktop mp3 feed whenever I want on my laptop with live feeds. These feeds will contain live mic-to-listener action, as well as the playing of any random mp3s and soundbites I happen to have lying around. Then, when I am finished giving a live broadcast, the content will immediately return to the desktop's mp3s.

Oh, and all the "live" stuff sent from the laptop should be recorded on the laptop for later listening and archival purposes.

Is this possible? I've never really seen anything like this posted before. What source clients should I use, both on my desktop and laptop, and how should I set up the icecast server to make all this possible?

Thanks for your patience and help, everyone.

The use of multiple mountpoints and a fallback mount will be useful to you. As for the source clients to use, well they can be any that can run on your machines and process mp3 files or live input, you just have to make sure that the format of the 2 streams are the same.

this is currently what id do..

i have 3 mounts

/stream > /live > /mp3

the link /stream is given out to folk and this mount will fallback to /live.
if no one is on /live (ie a live mix from a dj) then it will just fallback to /mp3. /mp3 gets its data from SAM broadcaster and that is connected to SQL database for request and playlists.

pm me if u need any help,
regards
