Oddcast transfer rate too high

with a 40kbps mp3 setting (22050 mhz,lame), oddcast shows a transfer rate of 100+ kbps and takes a good 40% of the processor!!

Even after disconnecting the processor monitor keeps showing 13% or so for oddcast process.

I am using a Gadget Labs 824 card (4 inputs) which works fine with windows media encoder in the same machine and works perfectly with oddcast3 in my other box with the same card but with windows 98. I don't know if it is a drivers thing or what. In the win98 box audio cards show up as (emulated).

Well, any help would be appreciated, if someone knows why oddcast behaves like this, please let me know.
