Icecast Streaming Media Server

Hi,

I've been trying to get this intro feature running on our streaming radio. I've managed to solve couple simple issues with intro but now stuck at a weird one. Here is what happens :
My intro plays ok. But more than %90 of the time stream doesn't play. I can see meta (id3) info on my client (XMMS or Winamp) scrolling right after intro finishes. But no sound. %10 of the time it is ok.
I use icecast 2.3.1 and ezstream 0.2.1.

I'll try using another source client (muse) but first wanted to check if anyone had the same issue.

The desacription sounds like the source client not sending any stream data. The intro file will loop if nothing has been sent, so make sure that the stream, without intro, plays as expected first.

Stream plays fine already. I'm trying to add intro to existing streams. Currently intro is disabled and streams play as it is expected.

It's not a reported issue. If the stream plays ok and the intro plays ok and bothe stream and intro match formats then there is no reason for a player to stop or loop playback. More info would be needed if we were to resolve it.

i am having this same issue now. 128kb stream, 128kb intro...the intro plays, then it stops.

when i disable intro, the stream plays as expected.

with it enabled, i hear the intro, metadata updates with the track title, and it just sits there staring at me.

problem solved. when i encoded the intro mp3 i did so with lame on my windows box. when i put it on my linux server, icecast would play the intro, then freeze...

i reencoded it using lame that is installed on the server, and this problem went away. i have only tested it once, but out of at least 100 tries with the windows lame encoded intro, it failed everytime...the first time i tried it with the linux lame encoded intro it worked flawlessly...

IS the format really matched?

Let's say, you make intro as stereo, 128kbps, 44100Hz.
You start streaming, you put same values.
You may get that error, only intro played.

Well... For example, Simplecast sends "stereo" really as joint-stereo.
You must use "dual mono" for true stereo.
As I have saved mp3's with sound forge, I have saved as true stereo, not joint-stereo.

I remember LAME has mono, joint-stereo, and stereo.
There is difference between stereo and joint-stereo:
In joint-stereo, audio is sent actually like mono, only on other channel, and other channel gets difference.
Then client that plays, plays that mono channel to both channels, and for other channel it add or remove information that comes to client in other channel to make it sound stereo.
It is like 1.5+0.5=2, (left + right - difference) + difference = joint-stereo.

Stereo, or dual mono, has own signals on both channels. It just is 1+1=2, left + right = stereo.
