Hello!
I use IceCast as on-demand relay for local network. I have configured few internet radios, but users asking me for more. Unfortunetly most wanted and most popular stations are broadcasting by MMS protocol (Microsoft Media Server). |

Icecast is a Xiph Foundation project, not a Microsoft project. I'm not sure what you expect us to do about this but making money for Microsoft is not our aim. |

Not making money. You may treat this as you want, but i think tkat this is not allowing Microsoft to steal money I don't know how much it wil cost licence for Microsoft Streaming Server but i dont think that it is cheap. Relaying off MMS stream is propobly also ability to create and broadcast MMS stream. So nobody any more will have to buy that M$ if he wants MM$ stream. Migration from MMS technology to Icecast will be easyer. Icecast will be doing anything that M$ Streaming Server and many more. Listening will be much easyer because windows users will not be made to download any other programs if they don't want to... however most of windows users propobly will be still using Winamp.
In case of realying MMS stream you can also add to tags something like "Relayed by Icecast" or something.
So as you see this feautre propobly improve Icecast and may push M$ away from the scene. |
