Hi,

I'm, obviously, a newbie. Although I read previous posts and FAQs, I still can't resolve my problem.

I'm running Icecast2.3.0rc1, source client ezstream0.2.0 on Ubuntu linux.
The server is running and the source is connected because I can see the status pages from a browser and I can see ezstream reporting statistics.

When attempting to connect from a Win98 machine running Winamp5.1, the player stays connecting without playing the avi file.

One note, ezstream reports 'Unknown format THEORA, passing right on through!'

Can you help? Can you tell me what to look for in the error or access log files? Nothing indicates connection problems.

Thanks.

If you are sending a ogg theora stream then you will need a suitable player/codec for playback. While winamp can play vorbis, I don't think a theora codec is available for winamp.

Try VLC or WMP (with the direct show filters, http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/)

Thanks for your response.

I'd did try VLC prior to your post and it works fine. I thought Winamp would work out of the box since it was listed as a player which supports Icecast2.

Thanks a lot. I understand now why it didn't work. Can I easily stream this .avi so that Winamp can play it? Is it as easy as modifying the easystream config file?

Thanks again.

Getting a data stream from icecast is one thing, decoding the data is something else. I'm not sure about avi, it will be treated as a pass through stream so if it needs special handling then you'll be out of luck.
