Icecast Streaming Media Server

hi ppl,

just wondering if any of you has been successful in configuring ezstream for a raw PCM input coming over stdin. the output i want should be mp3. i tried this, but something must be wrong on it - it doesnt look like the stdin is listened to.

thanks to any one of you sharing ideas.

Ezstream requires "ready-to-stream" data on standard input, so you'll have to pipe the PCM data through oggenc (i.e. LAME, or similar), first. AFAIK, the Ices* source clients might do what you want in this case, as they have native encoding support.

moritz - thanks for the answer, but i'm not really sure i understand what you mean. can you suggest me a combination of apps that i can use, such as to take raw pcm samples from stdin, convert to mp3 on the fly, and push that out to an icecast server? thanks.

Alright, so Ices0 doesn't read from stdin. However, it is actually possible to achieve this with ezstream. Start with example_mp3.xml and set <filename/> to stdin. Then, the following experiment works (and could potentially damage your speakers or ears - be warned):
