I've got a problem that I've not been able to resolve. Here's the background:

The objective is to stream audio and at the same time display information about what's currently being played. And within those info I would like to send an URL that once clicked sends the listener to a web page.

Of course the player should be something custom that could handle those metadata.

The real problem is: does Icecast support streaming of user defined metadata? Is there anyone who has done something similar before?

Thanks!

If you are talking of mp3 and the inline metadata then certain things could be handled but specs for this sort of thing are missing. A URL should be possible but I don't think it was defined for updating via the web interface.

Ok, so can we say that the actual best way to do that is to take a player like IceS and modify it to put something in the string that it sends to Icecast as the title of the currently played track?

In my case it could be something like:

- take the author and title
- put as prefix [{id number}]
- send it to the icecast server

And then i could just use the web interface of icecast to query the title and extract the id from the text and use it to make the URL I want to put on the site.

Is this a good option in your opinion?
