I've been using Destiny Broadcaster for a while but thought I'd try IceCast and see how good it is. Destiny Broadcaster allows livetalk broadcast as well, I'm talking as live as talking on the phone to someone, except in this case your broadcasting to the people. Unlike Destiny, I don't know how to work this IceCast program. I do not have my own server, unless theres a web server option. Rolling Eyes

icecast is just one part of the setup, the part that deals with organizing listeners and streams. If you want something that creates a stream by mixing several inputs then you need to look for an appropriate source client, of which several are available.

Which media streaming formats would work with it? just to be clear.

I know there's a Windows Media Player Live Format's (.asx) (mms://)
Which (NET) and (Traditional) Radio Station's use.

EDIT: Oh yeah wouldn't RealPlayer work, but how do I set it up to work with Realplayer.

IceCast is a free service right?

The core format we support is ogg (vorbis theora etc) but we also handle streams that can pass through like mp3 aac and nsv. WMA/WMV are not open and require special processing and are typically lower quality so we don't waste our time on trying to make that work. The same does for 'Real' streams however just because we don't handle their codecs doesn't mean the players can't be used with icecast. For instance wmp has plugins for ogg and handles CBR mp3 streams natively

Icecast is a freely available server, whether you want to run it yourself or pay someone to host it is up to you.

Oh brother, I gave LiveIce a try and it gave me a blank icon with a "?" about the size. When I openned it, it openned notepad. I'm reffering to the following which you'll see on the geocities site below.

wrt icecast, make sure it's running and that you know what the source password is as sam will require that to login and stream.
You can verify icecast is running and accessible by using a web browser http://IP:port/status.xsl. The documentation describes the tags in the xml.

I don't know the specifics for configuring sam as it's a product made by spacialaudio and not by icecast.org, but to connect to icecast2 you will need to supply a server IP/name, a port, mountpoint and a password.
