|
|
Currently I'm using NSV and DNAS but I've run into a problem with OSX viewers.
VP3 v3.1 isn't compatible with the new Intel version of OSX. VP3 hasn't be updated in years and isn't in "binary" form.
What I'm wondering is, what other source clients can I use that will provide me with access to other video codecs?
Efficiency isn't as important as compatibility. |

theora is the video codec we endorse, you can use something like ezstream or vlc as a source client.

Do I still have to use NSV Live Capture, if so how do I use the Theora codec?
Or do I need to use a substitute for NSVCAP?
Is the Theora codec compatible with the ActiveX webplayer that can be used with NSV/VP3? |

You cannot use the NSV Live Capture software with the Theora video codec.
The NSV ActiveX player is not compatible with the Theora video codec.
You can use the Cortado Java player for both the Ogg Vorbis audio codec and Theora video codec : www.scvi.net/cortado.htm _________________ Using NSV with Icecast : www.scvi.net/nsvice.htm

Ok cool.
The player looks good, thank you for telling me about it.
As for NSV Live Capture, what can I use as a replacement for it? I'm using a windows machine but if there was an OSX client that would be great too.
Also I need the client, server, or some program to have a method for recording the live video/audio steam.
Does this solution have that functionality?
For NSV recording the stream meant using the CLI version and it only had the ability to capture to the nsv format. With this setup is it possible to use the GUI and still record the stream, and is it possible to save to other formats other than the one you're streaming with?
I found this page, but it doesn't seem to list any win32 clients for broadcasting. |

Any suggestions?
Just wondering:
- What I have to use as a NSVCAP replacement?
- How can I easily record the broadcast? Non CLI options?
Oh also here's the link I missed last post.

There are no alternatives to NSVcap for live video streaming.
For pre-recorded video, you can use the NSV GUI : www.scvi.net/gui.htm
There is no NSV encoder available for the Mac platform.
There are several stream recording software packages that you can read about here : www.scvi.net/software2.htm _________________ Using NSV with Icecast : www.scvi.net/nsvice.htm

Hmm, I may have jumped ahead incorrectly here.
Is it possible to use NSVcap with the Theora codec to do live streaming?
Or failing that is there some other way to use the Theora codec and still achieve live streaming? |

NSVcap can only be used with codecs that have NSV encoder DLL files written for them. ( Theora does not have a NSV encoder plugin. )
You can try looking through the forums at the theora project website for a live video encoder. www.theora.org _________________ Using NSV with Icecast : www.scvi.net/nsvice.htm

So then Theora isn't a solution I guess?
What other options do I have? I need an OSX friendly alternative to the VP3 codec NSV currently uses. Also the codec has to be compatible with a webplayer of somekind.
Also pay-for options could be a possibility. |

Oh, sorry I made that a little convoluted.
I'm not looking to encode with a mac, I'm just looking for a different codec so that Intel OSX users can view the video stream.
All I need is a windows based encoder that can handle Theora. Does one exist? |

haha, ok.
Have you used it before?
I've used VLC for quite some time, but when I tried to use it for streaming Theora (after Theora was mentioned to me here), I couldn't get it to work.
Anyway, I'll give it another go, and hit the VLC forums if I need help.
Thanks for the info and suggestions. |
