Icecast Streaming Media Server

Right, im like new to broadcasting but my mate told me to download Sam Broadcaster and Icecast, all he told me to was start the Icecast server and then type my ip in a browser bar eg. http://xxx.xxx.xx.xx:800/live.m3u

But it doesnt work, + do i type in my Internal Ip or External.. i Have a router

configure icecast first and check that you can access the web pages from it. http://xx.xx.xx.xx:8000/status.xsl

where xx.xx.xx.xx is the IP/name your listeners intend to use to access the server (this may very well be the external IP). When that shows up in your browser then start to configure your sam broadcaster app.

I can't comment on configuring sam, you are better off asking that in their forums. For icecast just take one of the samples we provide and tweak certain settings like hostname to your situation.

Iv configured icecast, but i try typeing

But it doesnt recognise it :/

so try your internal IP then, if that works then it's your network setup. Common problems for that are Firewall or NAT misconfiguration.

Forward ports for my router?

On router, forward port 8000/TCP to your.server.lan.ip (eg. 192.168.0.5 if server has that IP in LAN).
