I belive the latest VLC has support for streaming theora to Icecast, I haven't tried it myself, so I don't know what (if any) limitations there are.

streaming VLC > Icecast: Icecast doesn't list the input stream
streaming with VLC directly: I can connect, but no stream is received (even when testing on localhost) |

i looked into VLC for this application as well. although i didnt really spend more than 10 minutes looking into it, it looks like VLC supports ogg theora formatt but doesnt support streaming to icecast.
when looking at the list of streaming protocols, i couldnt find anywhere that allowed me to specify the mountpoint and/or password. |

Hey I just saw this under the latest VLC release .84
Stream output:
* New shout output module to forward streams to icecast servers
* Fixed several SAP and SDP announcement bugs
* Fixed MTU handling to avoid IP fragments
Has anyone tried it ? |

Hi everyone:
I haven't tried streaming using VLC, but a few of us in the NSV Forum on WINAMP.COM were quick to discover that the VLC Player will play NSV-encoded videos though (especially those encoded in the new H.264/x264 format).
Really cool.
Now if we can only get Media Player Classic to perform much the same way.....
Cheers for now & Happy Holidays
Pat
P.S.: BTW...In case I look familiar to many of you, it's probably because I do look familiar as I'm the same guy who runs Jeeper One Radio, Jeeper One Television & NUKE 102 on Winamp. I just became a member today since Icecast is on the threshold of making OGG Theora a streaming reality for the average user. |

I found some discussion on the VideoLAN forums and I'm crossposting since this is a topic of intense interest to myself and seemingly quite a few others.

You need to build the stream output chain "yourself".
Use '#shout{url=user:password@server_host:server_port/mountpoint}'
It's not very user-friendly at the moment, we'll see what we can do
----
A link to it is here http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?t=14476
I'm extremely eager to investigate this myself, I hope to accomplish this some time this week and I'll be sure to report back my findings. |
