I am a newbie at this .. server is set up and I have clients broadcasting. etc.. however I want to have an automated feed that will run in the background and kick back on by itself when the clients log off .
...trying some XML mountpoint settings .. but really im lost !
can't find a decent description of mountpoint settings ...
HELP!

it's not exactly clear what you want to achieve but it sounds like you want a fallback configured.

yes my fallback (Feed) does not take over when someone one who is doing a live show dissconnects from the server.
looks like this...
<!-- <mount>
<mount-name>/cellar.ogg</mount-name>
<username>/othersource</username>
<password>*****</password>
<max-listeners>4</max-listeners>
<dump-file>/tmp/dump-example1.ogg</dump-file>
<fallback-mount>/feed.ogg</fallback-mount>
</mount> -->
is this correct?
how does this fallback anyway and where to ?
in this case is feed then another server that is running??
thx |

First thing to note is that section of xml is commented out <!-- this is ignored --> but assuming you mean it uncommented will mean that listeners on the /cellar.ogg stream will be moved to the /feed.ogg stream (if present) when /cellar.ogg stops.

yes that is what i am hoping to achieve .so with that being said .. do I therefore need anothere server running for that .
this is the part that I do not understand.
if it is to fallback to /feed.ogg say then do i need another vorbis encoder running as the feed?
thx

You need another stream on the same icecast to be available when the fallback triggers. The fallback mechanism only applies to streams within the same icecast instance, using another server would require an interruption in the listeners communication link. How that other stream is created is up to you but use the same audio settings (ie samplerate and channels).

the mountpoint now works fine and I tested it with someone else broadcasting. switches back and forth just fine ...
now another question..
in my icecast , the sever level stats only show up for /feed.ogg and not for /cellar.ogg when someone else broadcasts through my server.
hmm
?

almost forgot,.. i do use a vorbis encoder for /feed.ogg is that matters
-- when I connect both encoders it i can see it in the stats window..
but wont that prevent others from broadcasting with /cellar.ogg? or would they just override it?
