I've installed Icecast and Simplecast as server and source, and the Icecast server is receiving and sending data, but the URL "http://<myipaddress:port>/live.ogg.m3u" (myipaddress:port is actually my ip adress and port) doesn't work. Is there anything simple I might be overlooking?

The report of "doesn't work" isn't helpful. You need to verify that the stream is present on the server which is easily checked by looking at the status or admin page. It could be something as simple as the source having the wrong password.

| I'm looking at the stats window for the /live.ogg source, and the total_bytes_read is rising regularly. |

ok, so it looks like a stream is present, but again there's nothing being said about what is actually happening. It could be that your player is not ogg aware, we have no address to check ourselves.

If that is the link you are specifying to people outside your LAN then I'm not surprised it doesn't work. 192.168.x.x is reserved for private use.

I've read through several similar posts, but I'm not sure how to specify a link other than using my IP - except that I have tried using port forwarding to set up another IP - I'm over my head a bit, but I'm actually just trying to stream to my Roku by setting up a URL that it can access. Any suggestions would be helpful.

you can check for your real internet IP by going to some external sites that report it eg http://www.whatsmyip.org/

...finally got it working by changing from Ogg to mp3, but the quality isn't what I expected - distorting quite a bit. Thanks for the help, though.

sounds like you either named the mountpoint incorrectly or you tried playing back with a player without ogg capabilites. If the bitrate is low then mp3 quality will be bad.

If you are captuing from DSP then it may be down to your mixer settings. If levels are too high then distortion can be added.
