In the config file

Do you set it to 1 or 0 to make your server not show up on the YP?

Other questions...

For users to connect in an authenticated manner, will I need to also run a web server on my computer? Or can people access it by simply entering the port number in the URL?

I cannot seem to find a simple explanation (for newbs) how to configure authentification. I have one stream named stream.ogg and I want to limit listeners by username and password. Ideally individual passwords and usernames. I thought I made all the config file changes I needed to make but no love. Connecting still does not require authentification.

After I turn on the server, within minutes I have a tonne of client connectinos, listeners, file connections, etc... what is going on? Are all these people really connecting to my server so soon after I launch it?

Thank you to anyone with the patience to respond. I did try the search feature first.... I am willing to read and learn if you have any good links and don't want to actually type out a full explanation.

Ok figured out pretty much everything.

Two problems remain to be solved.

I cannot seem to connect using my WAN address using one computer in my home but not the other. I can get to the "click to listen" page, and when I do I enter their distinct username and password, it opems winamp, which again asks for username and password, and I enter it again only to be asked again and again for it....

The 2nd concern is in this screenshot.

Are there really over 100 people making file connections to my server? Are there really 200+ client connections from other people? Are there really more then 1 listener connections? The amount displayed exceeds the 8 I specified in my mount information.

When I go to the admin page it shows only one listener, this seems to be in conflict with the Icecast server itself.

Can I get someone to explain it to me ? heheh

Regarding your WAN address, if you cannot access icecast via that address then it will be down to a network/routing issue. You may have a NAT setup that isn't forwarding or your own PC may be blocking external access on that port.

Usually when the player keeps asking for the user/pw again and again, it's because the auth is failing. We don't know what you have setup to proceed but a good place to start are the icecast log files.

Some of those stats are accumulative and depending on your setup, you may be seeing some hacked boxes attempting to break into your machine. clients has a value of 2 which is probably the source client and 1 listener. file_connections is accumulative but note that the status.xsl page also refers to icons and css etc so that increases by so many each time.

My WAN setup is as follows:

I have port 8000 forwarded to my server which is on a static IP of 192.168.0.103

My router is configured with dyndns.org and this seems to work flawlessly for all other applications I run (such as RDP web access, Private FTP server, etc..) using port forwarding.

My computer at 192.1168.0.101 can, by using the dyndns address, access and connect to the authenticated stream every time without fail.

My computer at ....101 can connect to the admin panel and the "click here to listen" page, etc.. but when it gets to the stream in winamp it repeatedly asks over and over for the username and password in winamp. This happens if I use the dyndns address or if I use the local network addess.

This happens whether or not computer at 101 is connected.

Now, when I use shoutcast server, I do not have this problem.

I will make the access log blank and reproduce this issue later today and post it and maybe you could look it over for me at that time?

Thanks

The problem was not authentication at all but with winamp.

It seems winamp basic does not have the input plug in needed for icecast connection, so the connection fails and it keeps trying to reconnect asking for the password each time.

To solve this issue you need to have the client download the full version (even the free full version) if winamp which comes with the needed input plugin installed.
