|
|
Hello,
since a while I am having some stability issues.
We use Icecast for a local radiostation for the link between studio and broadcast location and internet radio streaming.
The windows XP server has two NIC's, one for the LAN including the internet radio streaming and one NIC with a public IP for the link with the broadcast location.
a couple of times a day the link with the broadcast location is disrupted and our station no longer "on the air". The player at the broadcast location retries after 5 minutes and starts playing again until the next occasion.
I cannot find the reason of this odd behavior, I already replaced Oddcast with simplecast, without success...
The Icecast error logs show the following exceptions:
[2007-03-17 14:28:13] WARN fserve/fserve.c req for file "./web/favicon.ico" No such file or directory
[2007-03-17 14:28:20] WARN client/client.c source connection has died
[2007-03-17 14:28:31] WARN client/client.c source connection has died
[2007-03-17 14:28:51] WARN client/client.c source connection has died
[2007-03-17 14:29:03] WARN client/client.c source connection has died
The access log shows the following:
82.95.xxx.xxx - - [17/Mar/2007:14:28:26 +0100] "GET /style.css HTTP/1.1" 200 4200 "http://odrie.homeunix.com:8000/admin/listmounts.xsl" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.2) Gecko/20070219 Firefox/2.0.0.2" 1
195.73.xx.xx - - [17/Mar/2007:14:28:26 +0100] "GET /studio HTTP/1.0" 200 517209286 "-" "Lukas/01.03 B09 s/n:14400 " 32346
82.95.xxx.xxx - - [17/Mar/2007:14:28:26 +0100] "GET /icecast.png HTTP/1.1" 200 5139 "http://odrie.homeunix.com:8000/admin/listmounts.xsl" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.2) Gecko/20070219 Firefox/2.0.0.2" 0
The IP addres 195.73.xx.xx is the address of the broadcasting site.
The situation with the server is the following:
On the XP server all the internet and lan traffic is on NIC 1, only the broadcast location uses NIC 2. IPFW has been installed to lock out all other traffic on NIC 2. Also there is no DNS server specified on the NIC 2 settings.
The Icecast config used can be found on
this link
I hope someone has some ideas to get us back on track again.
Regards,
Maarten |

It's not possible for icecast to know the reason for these failures, it can only react to the situation when no data is received or sent. The link is becoming interrupted in a big way that prevents TCP from continuing but it's not possible to say what that reason is from the description.
If DHCP changes are ruled out then it's most likely an issue with the provider. The fact that a reconnection works each time indicates that the changes are only affecting long lived connections.

Hello Karl,
Thank you for your reply.
I agree with you that most likely some kind of error occurs on the TCP level.
The only thing I cannot find out what it is...
The device that is reading the stream on the broadcast location confirms your theory:

The internet connection used on this nic is just sufficient for the stream so no other traffic should be allowed on the nic.
Therefore I have installed a firewall( that WIPFW should block/drops all other traffic on that NIC except the mp3 stream to the broadcast location.
I have done that with the following rules on top of the default ones:
00101 allow ip from 195.73.xx.xx to me via eth2
00102 allow ip from me to 195.73.xx.xx via eth2
00103 deny ip from any to any via eth2
probably these rules are not correct so the stream gets interrupted...
I will look at it..
Again thanks for your help. And if you have some suggestions how to solve my issues, your welcome to respond again.
