Icecast2 is very nice software, but unfortunately 2/3 of the userbase on the client end is using windows. I highly prefer using mpd for streaming, and it looks like it only streams in ogg. Is there a setting in mpd.conf that I am perhaps overlooking to use lame or anything other than ogg really. 3 out of the 4 people that are streaming use mpd for this. I would really like to keep the mpd streaming, but the only thing i was able to get to work in windows was VLC.

Any ideas?

various pieces of windows software works with ogg streams, winamp (non-lite) for instance. You could use java players like jorbisplayer as that plays vorbis content as well. I don't know if mpd will do other formats though.

I am using winamp 5.34 (basic) and i tried 2.91 as well, both of them try to connect but give me this message:
"HTTP/1.0 200 OK"

the mount point /Alex is the one none of the people can listen to (and /Inaki if it's up when you check)

Problem soved:

we had to have the sources change the mounts to include the .ogg file extension.

The streaming mountpoint was renamed to include a .ogg extension. icecast does not enforce this requirement but some players use the extension to select the codec.
