Icecast Streaming Media Server

Hey All,

I'd like broadcast here at Icecast but is it legal to play songs I don't own. All this songs I have are ripped from my CD's. I used to broadcast on Live365 but they paid the royalties. Can I broadcast my songs without getting in trouble from the RIAA? Thanks for the help.

Nope...I work at a radio station, and we pay royalties once for the radio broadcast, and a second time for the internet stream. They are changing some of the rules for "real" radio stations, so that they don't pay twice...but internet only must pay to play.

if you 'own' the music you are broadcasting then you do not need any licenses for streaming media over the internet.

you can buy blanket licenses that cover the mechanical rights of the music (record labels fees) and the performers rights (Artists).

dont know how it works in the US though.

alternatively, if you have written permission to play these, then again you are cool.
