Hello All

Need I say that I'm new to all this streaming business Smile

I wan't to set up an online on-demand mp3 service and found out I could use ShoutCast for this.

I installed ShoutCast on my webserver. Set it to port 8007, opend port 8007 and 8008 in my firewall, and all was great for a while.
I can play on-demand music on client in winamp (http://mp3.2morrow.dk:8007/content/Magic.mp3 this url says invalid ressource in browser but plays in winamp)

Problem is that I need to be able to use it for an online Flash player....

I posted in winamp forum, and the help i got was: ShoutCast headers are incompatible with Flash! Get Icecast as proxy.

Now I have installed Icecast on same server, but all this mount and port stuff is a little confusing, and all forumentries is about a source, but I don't need a source for on-demand, that it only for broadcasting, isen't it ?
At least it works with ShoutCast without a source, except for the header thing.....

What is Icecasts (proxy) role in this. Is Icecast relay or is it source for ShoutCast ?

I get this much that Shoutcast is on port 8007 and is listening on port 8008, but what ports should I set for Icecast and need I open more ports in the firewall ?

Can Icecast serve on-demand for it self like ShoutCast, without ShoutCast and a source ? I don't really see why I need two servers for the same purpose...

I hope someone has a little patience to explain all these (probably dumb) questions. Think of me as a grown child in the matter of understanding Wink

Thanks in advance

While icecast can relay shoutcast streams, on-demand content is a completely different matter. icecast won't work as a proxy in this situation but you can provide content like any web server does by placing the content in webroot.

OK here is the deal

Online is the only solution for my problem.

Flash is the most supported technology on the internet for music and video in my country today.

It has to be streaming because it is against the law in my country to hand over music, even if it only ends up in peoples cache.... (unless it is your own music, but I can't play Confused)

I want to show a picture of the record being played at the moment, so i can't see any other way than doing it on-demand.

Is there any way to extract info on the artist playing from a broadcast stream into HTML ?????
