Does the Windows version of Icecast have any means to virtually place folders from other devices or from other paths on the same drive as webroot under webroot? The Unreal Media Server does under its webroot.

Does Windows XP workstation or Windows 2000 workstation or Windows Server provide virtual folders that could accomplish the same thing?

TIA,

Tom

No, Icecast has no such feature. You should probably be using a full-featured web server rather than the very limited one within icecast if you want to do that sort of thing.

Thanks for the fast answer. Is there another server that supports HTTP 'file streaming' with seeks within files AND virtual folders AND runs on Win32?

With some googling, I find that Windows Vista will support virtual folders and that there has been some potential for it within Win2k - WinXP but not exposed to users. A file linkd.exe is available in a Resource Kit that can be used to create 'junction points' but the easiest is the freeware application "Junction Link Magic" from http://www.rekenwonder.com/linkmagic.htm incorporating code from Mike Nordell http://www.codeproject.com/w2k/junctionpoints.asp#xx1284764xx.

I created a folder under Icecast's webroot and used Link Magic to bring a folder on another drive underneath it. Both Explorer and Icecast behave as though the folder (and its sub-folders) on this other drive is under the junction point sub-folder of webroot.

Other keywords and techniques or synonyms (I have not researched enough to tell the difference) are:
Distributed File System (DFS)
directory junctions
mount points
reparse points
softlink
symlink
