|
|
I just dont understand what is going on. I have been trying to work out what is happing by reading this forum for the last 3 days but noting makes sense.
I need this very step by step example created.
1) what does the master server need set up to allow someone to connect to it and when that connection closes how do you get it back to playing the playlist on the master again?
2) what do i need to do to get the remote to connect to the master server when they want to take over?
I really hope someone can go through step by step so i can become good at this and be able to help people myself.
Thanks

| Does the remote Dj connecting to my icecast need icecast installed or do they just use the oddcast and point the server ip to my icecast and change the mount point to dj1? |

You only need a master if you are dealing with multiple icecasts, it does not sound like you want that. Most want a source client to talk to icecast. Note that a mountpoint begins with a / so /dj1 is ok for an mp3 stream, for other formats you are better off adding a suitable extension to the mountpoint like /dj1.ogg
Icecast can be used in many different setups, but you'll find that the setup for most people is straight forward. Those settings in <mount> are optional, don't add them unless you really want them.

I am still a bit confused.
The current stream on the pc with icecast is winamp with oddcast and a stream called listen.
I want someone to take over from listen automatically with dj1 and when they are finished the listen stream runs again.
What you are talking about is one stream called dj1 and we just swap with no fall back?
EDIT:
so just this bit?
<mount>
<mount-name>/dj1</mount-name>
<username>dj1</username>
<password>radio</password>
<max-listeners>10</max-listeners>
<fallback-mount>/listen</fallback-mount>
<fallback-override>1</fallback-override>
<fallback-when-full>1</fallback-when-full>
<hidden>1</hidden>
<no-yp>1</no-yp>
<authentication type="htpasswd">
<option name="filename" value="myauth"/>
<option name="allow_duplicate_users" value="0"/>
</authentication>
<on-connect>/home/icecast/bin/stream-start</on-connect>
<on-disconnect>/home/icecast/bin/stream-stop</on-disconnect>
</mount> |

I feel a bit "LAME". I have sorted out the mp3 stream now..
<mount>
<mount-name>/dj1</mount-name>
<fallback-mount>/listen</fallback-mount>
<fallback-override>1</fallback-override>
</mount>
with that.
Sorry i was a bit slow. |

It is surprising trivial to set some of this up when you get used to it.

I finally got someone to dj on the stream dj1 but it didnt take over from listen mount..
they connected because we could listen on /dj1 and see they were connected in icecast.
Is there something I have missed.
is there a demo of a working setup somewhere? |

Are you saying that there was a listener on /listen when dj1 connected? and when /dj1 was up and running that the listener originally on /listen was still on /listen and not on /dj1
If so then show the error log for the time before the source client connected till after the stream format is determined.

that sounds like a different problem. if the listener requests /dj1 and drops to /listen then there must be a reason like /dj1 is not active.

In the specified case, /listen was the fallback not the main mountpoint. yes it is misnamed. It would be better to have something like /fallback and /djX with /listen as a local relay of fallback which would switch between /fallback and /djX
