Icecast Streaming Media Server

I have setup htpasswd authentication of the default live stream using this:

<mount-name>/stream.m3u</mount-name>
<authentication type="htpasswd">
<option name="filename" value="/usr/local/etc/myauth"/>
<option name="allow_duplicate_users" value="1"/>
</authentication>
</mount>

When I log into the admin/stats.xsl it does not show a red key on that stream. Because of this I cannot add users. I tried manually creating the file using the linux "htpasswd" command but still no luck. If I try to listen to the stream it does ask for a username and password but I cannot authenticate. I have tried using plain text passwords, basic passwords and md5 passwords to no avail. I would be happy to manually create this file if I new the correct password hashing method.

I also tried changing that mount name to /test.m3u I can connect with my source then to test.m3u but the icecast stats page only shows /stream and no option for /test

I am using the latest icecast 2.3.1.

Any thoughts? Would this be considered a bug?

Do you know that an m3u is a playlist, not a stream. This will authenticate the user/pass passed by your browser to get the playlist which occurs before it starts your player.

maybe you meant <mount-name>/stream</mount-name>
