hi

i managed to get the connection between icecast2 and ices2 but since it seems like ices2 only streams .ogg is there a way to manage it ? i want to plug in my MP3 Player into the line in jack and stream that music and ofcourse the files on my player are mp3

If you configure ices2 to read from the dsp (with line set for capture) that your player is connected to then it will encode and stream it.

ok it seems to work but there is no sound in winamp but hes connected... i allready set the alsamixer all levels to 50% but still nothing...

so u mean it automatically converts my mp3 to ogg if the stream is started ?

From your description is looks like you are capturing but you haven't set the mixer settings correctly so all that is being captured is silence. You need to make sure that capture is set on the appropriate setting as well as setting the levels. Mix or Line-in or Mic as well as Capture are typical settings that are needed.

erm ok i guess u know i dont have a clue how the hell i should to that since in the mixer there was no entry for line in etc. so can u tell me where to set something whats still needed ?(sorry for silly questions but i never worked with any linux stuff at all before monday)

You are not telling us any detailed information about what you are using, so I can only say things in general. I find it hard to believe you don't have a line-in setting even though you have a line-in input, maybe you are using a GUI applications that only shows a few settings and you need to change the preferences.

using debian

installed alsa and alsa-utils via apt-get install

using icecast2 and ices2 seems to work since it allready worked when i used .ogg files from an hard driva via playlist
i set volume lvls in alsamixer and there was no point for line in or something

now i installed aumix and found option for line in etc.

checking now if it works

Maybe you are not looking at all of them, alsmixer usually shows more settings that your screen can show. F4 shows capture settings, you may even need to start alsamixer with something like -c 0 to pick the correct device.

well it works after ich changed the line volume from aumix but somehow i get disconnected after a certain amount of time hmm strange i gonna check the log files

EDIT: Ices2.log says client fallen too far behind

cant tell u how that could happen since im connected via LAN with that server so i dont know :/

Firstly 'fallen too far behind' sounds like an icecast error not an ices2 error. if it really is a listening player that is causing that then the player is consuming the stream at a slower rate than what is given and icecast is kicking it off because it can't do anything else. This typically means the link from icecast to listener is too slow, maybe the link is max'd out.

maxed out by only 1 listener ? cant rly imagine that but its different.. sometimes i got disconnected after 5 mins and sometimes after 40 mins so well i will try to alter the bitrates etc maybe that is the problem
