|
|
Hi, i read about the ways to minimize buffer delays with <burst-on-connect>0. I don't want to use icecast as a web radio. We have a big party coming up and we thought we should connect to the same source, making the dorms to one large speaker (with aucustic delays, of course).
Now, I tried shoutcast and local and remote server configs, with high bitrates and all that with at least 1 sec delay(computers next to each other, server a kilometer away with 100/100 between). Is this something icecast theoretically could do better? Am I spending hours and hours setting up a second not working system?
Regards,
Johan |

The burst size default for icecast is 64k not the 1Meg or so for shoutcast, and you can tweak that setting as you wish, obviously icecast will not provide real time sync between the player, but assuming you have no contention for bandwidth then there's no reason it cannot be a lower setting. 64k was chosen because it's a common setting for the prebuffer within players.

| I'm sorry if this is a daft question due to your reply, but since I don't have any data on 64k:1MB ratios I presume you mean it IS possible to more or less eliminate delays within the icecast-to-player system? |

You can set a burst size of 0 if you wish and icecast will start giving you the last block received, but don't forget that the player has a buffer as well. So try with minimum buffer settings if you wish but smaller buffers means less tolerance to network glitches.
