when a listener connects to the icecast, is the server consuming the bandwidth of the incoming source bandwidth as well as the outgoing bandwidth??

Or is the icecast facilitating the connection to the source???

in other words, if a 100 people connect to the server, is the source bandwidth a limiting factor?

EDIT:

what about relay servers?

Nope. The connection between the source client and the server is one single stream, while the connection between the player client and the server is the number of players x stream bandwidth.

The number of player clients does not affect the bandwidth between the source client and the server.
