It would be really nice to be able to conform, at least partly, Icecast streaming to the newest EBU specifications:
EBU Tech 3329: A Tutorial on Audio Contribution over IP This is intended to support EBU members with their audio-over-IP audio contribution systems. Basic IP computer and network technologies are covered and suitable protocols for streaming audio over IP are proposed. This is a companion document to EBU Doc Tech 3326-2007.

EBU Tech 3326_r3 (2008):Audio Contribution over IP - Requirements for Interoperability
This document provides a minimum set of requirements necessary to ensure interoperability between equipment intended for the transport of contribution-quality audio over IP networks

This would open a very wide platform for embedded devices, which could do Audio-over-IP based on IceCast and Ices, on OpenSource basis.
