Icecast Streaming Media Server

Hi all,

so after giving up on installing the Icecast server and moving on, I really wanna try my hand at it again. It's a very practical software for me, and for anyone who wants to start an online radio.

Now, I would like to get information on how to install this on a WINDOWS XP platform. To use as an example, here's my setup:

-1 Server PC (WinXP SP2) (192.168.0.101 is its internal IP), contains all my music on a networked drive;
-1 Workstation PC (WinXP SP2) (192.168.0.164), plays all the music but has no files, relies on the networked drive;
-1 Laptop (not used in this scheme).

From what I understand, This should be my setup:
-install Icecast on the Server PC
-install Oddcast on the workstation PC as a plugin for Winamp 5.11.

Winamp should be reading the songs from the Server, playing them back through the Oddcast plugin on the workstation, and sending them back as a stream to the Icecast server installed on the Server PC. I then open a port on my server and I can go, from a different PC, to my server's IP:Port, and I could "read" the stream with Winamp.

So far, I understand this concept. Now all I need is a step-by-step guide to help me out to install this.

If someone is familiar with this installation on Windows XP, please reply to this post, and we can start writing up step by step, problems included, how to install Icecast on Windows XP.

Just grab that icecast win32 package, double click it and let it install.
It will make in your start menu it's own icon, start it, edit configuration, save, start server. Then you may start streaming.

Reading help will help you very much.
On icecast/win32 executable you will see help menu below window title.

If you want precise information then by all means ask it. icecast clients just need to one TCP port to send the stream, should be easy to handle with a firewall.

Precise information about oddcast should be available via the www.oddsock.org forums. but oddcast it just one source client, several are available and many don't reside on the same machine as icecast.
