I am a noob to icecast (love it so far) and a comfortable with Linux.

Stats:

Fedora Core 4
Icecast2 2.3.1
Winamp5 with Oddcast V3 running on WinXP MCE
SDSL 1.5Mps

I got the server up but I must have done something wrong to the config file.
I can stream from my desktop using winamp and oddcast plugin and the server shows the connection. Additionally, I can connect using Itunes with the http://my.server.com/stream.m3u with the following caveats:

1. It says getting playlist and never goes away
2. It wants me to login into my website.

I imagine that if I had an entire playlist with a name and everything that might solve the problem but since I'm testing I haven't done that. Additionally I want to be able to talk between songs. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

I started from scratch with the config file and got rid of the user login request but am still getting the looking for playlist. All of my mount points show up and while the player is looking for playlist it shows itunes as connected?

That would indicate that itunes is getting some data even though it isn't reporting as such. The log files (both error and access) can be useful here.
Maybe you are sending a stream format that itunes doesn't understand, so it's actually waiting for more data.

karl.

Ok I'm a dunder head. I'm posting this to say I resolved the problem after (drumroll please) reading the official docs you have online. While the walkthrough for installation by your contributors is good it is better to go to the official documentation.

My problem was that my mount point just had the stream.m3u and not stream.ogg.m3u. Once I read the docs and made the change to the url and mount point everything worked great.

Sorry for the wasted posting.

This is really cool Razz

Thank you for having the initiative to read the docs.

Embarassed Better late than never I guess. I do want to clarify that the contributor docs are great at helping on get the server up and running, as well as explaining how things work.

The official docs provide the bread and butter of making sure it all works.
